Softwar Author Eyes Advisor Role in US Bitcoin Policy

US Space Force officer and crypto policy author Major Jason Lowery has applied to be the Department of Defense’s military advisor.

His research challenges traditional views of Bitcoin, presenting it as more than a peer-to-peer payment system.

US Hash Force: Softwar Suggests BTC for National Security

After Polymarket polls indicated support for Senator Cynthia Lummis’ Bitcoin ACT Bill, she commented on the development via X. In response, a user suggested Major Jason Lowery, author of Softwar: A Novel Theory on Power Projection and the National Strategic Significance of Bitcoin, as a potential presidential advisor.

“I recommend Maj Jason Lowery for presidential advisor on the Advancement of Bitcoin as a National Strategic Asset,” an X user said.

Lowery confirmed that he had already submitted an application for a role within the White House. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s System Design and Management department originally published his writings before they were released in paperback. His thesis proposes a new way to analyze Bitcoin — not as just a peer-to-peer payment system but as a potential electro-cybersecurity tool.

Broadening the research community’s perspective on Bitcoin’s Proof-of-Work (PoW) technology, his hypothesis introduces a new theoretical framework called Power Projection Theory. It suggests that Bitcoin’s PoW could function as a form of what he terms electro-cyber power projection.

This means it could help nations secure critical information such as financial data and deter cyberattacks by imposing heavy physical costs on attackers. The author names this approach “softwar” and explores how it could impact national security strategies in the digital age.

Lowery suggests that the United States could strengthen its cybersecurity and preserve a digital strategic edge by building a powerful hashing industry, which he dubs the “US Hash Force.”

His proposals have attracted interest from both military and political leaders. On November 7, Lowery addressed the US Defense Innovation Board in an open letter, calling on the Pentagon to explore Bitcoin’s strategic potential.

“I can confirm that I have submitted an application to serve as a military advisor on the National Security Council (NSC) and/or the White House Office of Science & Technology Policy (OSTP). My goal is to advise the Department of Defense on the national strategic significance of Proof-of-Work (PoW) technology and provide senior leaders with policy recommendations related to a strategic Bitcoin stockpile and the US Hash Force,” Lowery stated.

Lowery is a US Space Force Officer who had a decade-long military career. During that time, he was a technical advisor to senior officials on defense system-related matters.
